frequently asked questions

Our matcha is organic and ceremonial grade made from the youngest, freshest tea leaves from the first harvest in the foothills of Kagoshima, Japan. It is made from shade-grown tea leaves that are ground into a fine powder. When purchasing matcha, it is important to look for high-quality, fresh tea that has been properly stored to maintain its flavour and health benefits.

Matcha is a type of powdered green tea that is rich in antioxidants, boosts metabolism, enhances focus, supports the immune system, promotes relaxation, and helps regulate blood sugar. However, it should be consumed in moderation and as part of a healthy lifestyle.

The shelf life of matcha can vary depending on factors such as the quality of the tea, how it has been stored, and the packaging. Generally, high-quality matcha that has been properly stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place can last up to one year. However, once matcha is exposed to air and moisture, it can begin to lose its flavour and nutritional benefits. It is recommended to consume matcha within three to six months of opening the package for optimal freshness. We also recommend to avoid storing matcha in the refrigerator or freezer as this can cause moisture build up and compromise the quality of the tea.

The best way to extend the life of the Matcha, store the powder in an airtight vacuum container out of direct sun and heat. The next best option is to purchase your Matcha powder in small quantities, opening only when you have finished the last container. You will notice that our Organic Greaty Ceremonial Grade Matcha powder comes in 20g pouch. This gives you 15 fresh servings of matcha.

  1.  Sift 1-2 teaspoons of matcha powder into a small bowl to remove any clumps.
  2.  Add a small amount of 60-70 degrees hot water (about 2 ounces or 60ml) to the bowl, and use a bamboo whisk (chasen) to whisk the matcha in a zig-zag motion until it becomes frothy and smooth.
  3.  Add more 60-70 degrees hot water (about 6-8 ounces or 180-240ml) to the bowl and whisk again to combine.
  4.  Enjoy your freshly prepared matcha.

If you prefer a stronger or weaker matcha, you can adjust the amount of powder and water accordingly. You can also add sweeteners like honey or sugar, or use alternative milks like almond or soy milk to make a matcha latte. While a bamboo whisk is the traditional tool used to prepare matcha, an electric frother or handheld milk frother can also be used as an alternative.

Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves that are carefully handpicked, steamed, dried, and ground into a fine powder using traditional granite stone mills. This process requires a great deal of skill and attention to detail, and it takes several hours to produce just a small amount of matcha.

Additionally, the quality of matcha can greatly affect its price. High-quality matcha is made from the youngest, tenderest tea leaves, which have a sweeter flavor and more vibrant green color.
